| Springbok Café opened in July 1996 to critical acclaim. Michelin rated chef-patron Peter Gottgens’ South African cuisine is largely a fusion of South Africa’s many culinary traditions and flavours. The style and presentation of the food can be seen as an amalgamation of the old and the new and in that sense symbolises the new South Africa. Nominated for best new restaurant in the UK in 1997. In 1999 Springbok was listed in the Michelin Guide, a first for South African cuisine – this was repeated in 200000. |

| Chantelle’s idea of a Springbok Café started in early 1993. It did however take two years to convince Pete that this was a good idea. After much persuasion and hard work, Pete was finally convinced that it could work. The vibrant colour scheme, décor and success of the business is a tribute to Chantelle’s vision. The restaurant opened on the 22nd July 1996. |
| | Pete Gottgens has a passion for food, wine and South Africa. For him, the best way to express this passion was to open a restaurant that would put South African food on a platform to stand proudly with other cuisines of the world. |
